Chose to Use Non-Toxic Alternatives

Many commercial cleaners contain substances which are toxic and can burn skin or eyes on contact.  Without proper ventilation their use can also produce harmful fumes. Non-toxic alternatives are not only as effective and easy to use as their commercial counterparts, but they are also safer for your family and the environment.  Best of all, these non-toxic alternatives are less expensive and require less storage space.

Environmental Tips
The Environmental Advisory Board and the High School Environmental Club are offering the following tips to residents, taken from the “How to Reduce Your Carbon Footprint” by Joanna Yarrow:
-  Keep the coils at the back or bottom of your refrigerator or freezer dust free.
-  Close the door quickly on your refrigerator.  Up to 30 percent of cool air escapes every time you open the door.
-  Recycle plastic bottles.
-  Use LED Christmas lights, which use up to 95 percent less energy than traditional bulbs.
-  Install low-flow showerheads and sink aerators to reduce hot water use.
-  Install with socks or solar collectors.  Grants and low interest loans are available from the state.  Go to
ra.sbgrants@state.pa.us
-  Not ready to invest in solar but understand the need to reduce carbon user?  Go to www.newwindenergy.com and for pennies a day you can 100 percent wind powered for all your electrical needs.
-  Alkaline household batterys are no longer recycled.  They can be safely be discarded in normal household trash.
